1. How can I tell the difference between different grades of chain?

    arrow

Chains are manufactured and marked or stamped with a manufacturer’s mark and/or its grade at regular link intervals (usually no more than every 0.5m). Grade 80 chains are marked with an 8 or an 80, Grade 100 chains are marked with a 10. Chains are usually available in a range of grades, depending on the manufacturer.

  2. Can Grade 80 and 100 lifting chains be welded?

    arrow

Grade 80 and Grade 100 should not be welded. The heat applied during the welding process would be detrimental to the product and would compromise its performance and safe use.

  3. What is the difference between Grades 80, 100, and 120 chain?

    arrow

Grade 80 chains are widely used for sling configuration within the lifting industry. Grade 100 has 20% higher lifting capacity with reduced size and weight. Grade 120 is 50% stronger than Grade 80 and 20% stronger than Grade 100.

  4. Can Grade 80 and Grade 100 components be used together in one chain sling?

    arrow

Yes, components from different grades can be used together but the WLL will be determined by the weakest link and stated on the tag.

  5. Which way should hooks face?

    arrow

The hook openings must always point outwards to prevent the load from being unhooked unintentionally.
