1. Do I need to have my lifting equipment and height safety gear tagged and certified?

    Yes. It's a requirement under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 to ensure that workplaces are safe, therefore the equipment used within the workplace must be safe and in good working order. The applicable Approved Codes of Practices require that registers be maintained of the equipment meaning that all Lifting / Rigging Equipment and Height Safety Gear should be traceable and supported by the respective certificates demonstrating that any and all periodic inspections and testing of the items has been completed by a competent person.    

  2. Can I inspect my own equipment?

    It is encouraged and a requirement as best practice to regularly inspect your lifting equipment and height safety gear before every use, which must be performed by a competent person. Most commonly, equipment owners contract Cookes to perform third-party inspections and certification of their equipment which at the time of inspection or when required, our technicians can service and maintain the functionality of your equipment to ensure the users safety by having certified equipment.   

  3. What certificates are issued when items are inspected?

    A detailed certificate for each item is issued once the inspection is completed. Each certificate contains the equipment's attributes and details the steps followed by our technicians during the inspection process. In support of the certificate packs issued, Cookes provide a detailed asset register to our customers after each round of inspections with a summary of the inspections done and when the items next inspections are due. 

  4. Can my equipment be inspected on site?

    Yes. Cookes offer onsite services nationally. Our qualified and experienced technicians can perform onsite inspections, equipment repairs, load testing and certification services and will issue certificates and asset registers upon completing the work. Our technicians are seen as solutions-based advisors and can assist with all third-party services and sales of lifting equipment, wire rope, marine equipment. 

  5. Can you inspect wire ropes?

    Yes. With our onsite services, our technicians can perform thorough examinations on wire ropes and any other lifting equipment. Cookes offer IANZ accredited Magnetic Rope Inspections (MRT) / Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) / Scanning on wire ropes onsite in-situ. Performed by highly skilled and qualified ropes men, our team can perform in-situ high-pressure lubrication and specialist rigging services.
